What we're about Greenways provide ADA-compliant recreation opportunities (walking, biking, in-line skating, jogging), alternate transportation routes, and gathering places for communities while protecting water quality along creeks, rivers, and lakes. The Knox Greenways Coalition serves as a communication bridge between local neighborhood organizations and the City of Knoxville and Knox County governments. The Knox Greenways Coalition also dedicates funding and volunteered time to greenway enhancement and awareness. Why support greenways? Greenways benefit everyone in a variety of ways. Greenways are linear, paved trails that make pedestrian transportation available for all people to enjoy. Whether it be a parent pushing a stroller around a soccer field while their child plays, a commuter heading into work, a tourist riding through the city and nature alike, a child walking to school, a runner getting some exercise, or a family watching wildlife on the river, greenways offer a little bit of something for everyone. Furthermore, greenways enhance the quality of life by decreasing traffic and thus reducing air pollution, preserving habitats for native wildlife, increasing property values by linking to parks and other venues, and creating stronger communities by linking neighborhoods together. With so many benefits, the real question should be "Why not support greenways?" Find out
